Nyovani Janet Madise PhD, DSc

Biography

Nyovani Madise is a social statistician and global health specialist. She has held roles as Director of Development Policy at the African Institute for Development Policy; Professor of Demography and Social Statistics and Equality, Diversity Lead at the University of Southampton (UK); Senior Research Scientist at the African Population and Health Research Center in Kenya, and Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Malawi.

Nyovani’s research focuses on the social determinants of health, sustainable development, and the impacts of climate change. She is a trustee of several organizations in the USA, UK, and Malawi. Nyovani advises governments on the use of research for policy formulation and implementation and is a member of the UN Committee for Development Policy and the UN High-level Advisory Board on Economic and Social Affairs. She is also a member of LSTM’s Remuneration Committee as well as being LSTM’s Equality & Diversity Champion and Co-Chair of the BAME Taskforce
