What we offer:
- Professional growth through industry-relevant training and skill-building workshops
- Continuous learning opportunities to expand your knowledge and expertise

Career pathways
We create opportunities and provide resources to extend career development within a culture where everyone is accountable for their own learning and progression. All managers are encouraged to play an important role in helping to guide and support staff through their career development and progression.
Allowing people to take advantage of development opportunities is a key part of the success of our organisation so that people have the skills to progress to the right roles for success.
Mentorship and training
Development happens in many forms at LSTM:
- Interactive workshops and expert lectures
- eLearning resources and discussion groups
- Town hall briefings and lived experience talks
- Panel discussions and volunteer opportunities
- Committee and working group participation
These are all enabled with managers who provide mentorship, commitment, and guidance to help you thrive while contributing to LSTM’s global health mission. LSTM also strives to create more mentorship opportunities either through learned societies or from the wider LSTM community.
Leadership development
LSTM supports the growth of all leaders in LSTM. By working with leading providers in the sector such as Advance HE and with internal initiatives, we have a varied programme supported by the use of 360-degree feedback mechanisms.
Career Track
The Career Track is the fast-track gateway to academic progression—Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader, Professor. Successful entrants are set challenging targets and supported to achieve them over a three-year period. They emerge as core-funded academics who are recognised for their excellence in research, teaching, and knowledge exchange.
Academic promotion
There are three routes to academic promotion:
- Research and Education Route: research-focused applications
- Education Route: teaching and learning-focused applications
- Research Only Route: Senior or Principal Research Associate positions only
The Academic Promotion process runs once a year, with details of the process and timelines published by HR.
