Academic structure

Our research, teaching and partnerships are delivered through four academic departments. Each department focuses on a distinct area of tropical medicine and global health, working collaboratively to create impact at scale.

Clinical Sciences

Researches the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, advancing evidence-based approaches that improve care worldwide.

Department of Clinical Sciences

Vector Biology

Investigates the insects that transmit diseases such as malaria, dengue and Zika. Develops tools to support the control and elimination of vector-borne diseases across the globe.

Department of Vector Biology

Tropical Disease Biology

Explores the biology of parasites, bacteria and viruses that cause tropical diseases, driving innovation in vaccines, diagnostics and treatments.

Department of Tropical Disease Biology

International Public Health

Addresses the social, economic and environmental factors that shape health. Strengthens systems and builds capacity in low- and middle-income countries.

Department of International Public Health

Professional Services

Provides the expertise and support to ensure we operate effectively, sustainably and in line with our strategic goals. Work includes student recruitment, marketing and education services, finance, human resources, estates and IT.

Governance

LSTM is governed by a Board of Trustees, responsible for strategic direction and oversight of the institution.

Academic matters are overseen by the Academic Board, supported by committees covering research, education, audit and risk.

We operate as a registered charity (Charity Number 222655) and company limited by guarantee. We are committed to openness, accountability and the highest standards of governance.
