Research degree application guidance
Step-by-step guidance for the online application form
Apply for all courses online through MyLSTM. You must register for an online account first.
Fill in your personal details and address details, and upload a scanned copy of your passport or ID. Add your permanent home address, where you normally live, and a correspondence address if you’d like communications to be sent elsewhere. Provide an active email address that you access regularly.
Use the study and research section to list the academic staff at LSTM that you’ve been in contact with about your proposed research. State whether you intend to do most of your research in Liverpool or if it will involve off-site work. If you plan to spend the majority of your time off-site, but will still spend more than 12 months in total at LSTM, this is considered ‘split-site’.
Select your preferred award title from the drop-down list.
Provide full details of your academic and professional qualifications, and a CV listing your work experience. Upload copies of your award certificates and/or transcripts.
Provide evidence of English language requirements, and upload your test certificate, if applicable.
Complete your personal statement. Use this to explain:
- Why have you chosen this programme?
- Why do you want to study at LSTM?
- What do you hope to gain from your studies?
- How does this application fit with your career plans?
- What skills and/or experience would you bring to the PhD community?
- What are the long-term benefits?
Tell us how you plan to fund your studies. You might be asked to present evidence of this at a later stage.
Provide the name and contact details for two referees. These should be senior academics or professionals who have supervised you recently, and cannot be friends or family.
When you have completed all mandatory fields of the application, and attached all required documentation, click SUBMIT.
You can save your application form as you go, so you don’t need to complete it all at once.
