Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
At Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, we are proud of our diverse community of staff, students and partners and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone can thrive and is valued.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy
Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy is underpinned by our institutional values of inclusivity, integrity, partnership and impact. Our Strategy is being updated in collaboration with our staff and students, and we look forward to sharing it in due course. Focused around four core themes, this new strategy will guide our activities over the coming years:
- Fostering a culture of inclusion and promoting a strong sense of belonging
- Communication, understanding and mutual support
- Embedding intersectionality and equity throughout institutional practices
- Leadership and accountability
Celebrating our diverse community
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion annual reporting
Annual Statutory Reporting enables us to monitor progress against objectives and inform action moving forward. All higher education teaching and research institutes have a duty to publish information that demonstrates their compliance and responsibilities under The Equality Act and the Public Sector Equality Duty.
In publishing our Annual Equity and Inclusion, and Gender and Ethnicity Pay Gap reports we seek to:
- update on annual progress against objectives;
- capture the diversity of our staff and students;
- acknowledge gaps in our activities to inform action moving forward and identify goals for the academic year ahead.
We are committed to building on our efforts and look forward to reporting our progress on these important priorities year on year. You can read more about our progress in our latest reports: Annual Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Report (PDF) and Gender, Ethnicity, Disability Pay Gap Reports.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion governance
Our ED&I Committee fosters a culture of inclusion and diversity. It undertakes transparent and inclusive decision making and supports institutional ED&I initiatives, efforts and objectives. It reports to our Senior Leadership Team.
The committee has representation from across LSTM and the wider education sector. All ED&I staff networks, committees, charter self-assessment teams and action groups nominate their committee chairs.
Our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team plays a critical role in delivering our strategy and action plans, working with staff across LSTM. Contact the team via email at inclusion@lstmed.ac.uk for more information about our work.

Our staff networks create a space to celebrate difference, foster inclusion and support diverse group needs, as well as playing a key part in our decision making. They act as a platform for engagement on E, D and I related matters and ensure that diverse voices are heard in the development of wider policies and processes.
