Hijack, Persist, Evade: Uncovering the Virus-Host Cell Relationship

Over the course of her scientific journey, Professor Christine Goffinet explored the complex interactions between pathogenic viruses and human host cells. She highlighted viral strategies for immune evasion and the exploitation of host cell factors, alongside the cellular mechanisms that sense and restrict viral infection.

These insights from fundamental research form the foundation of our understanding of virus host cell interplay. They also provide a starting point for developing therapeutic and curative antiviral interventions, particularly in the context of emerging viral infections and HIV-1/AIDS, which remain among the most urgent global health challenges we face.

A lecturer speaks at an LSTM podium to an audience in a lecture theatre, with a slide titled β€œOngoing work” showing research on HIV cure strategies, pathogenic viruses, respiratory infections and MPXV.
