Research Integrity
At LSTM, research integrity means doing science that is rigorous, honest, and trustworthy. It’s about maintaining high standards throughout every stage of our work – from design and data collection, to analysis, reporting and sharing findings.
What we believe in
We expect all staff, students, and visitors who conduct research at LSTM to adhere to international and UK standards of integrity. This includes:
- Honesty: Be clear and truthful about your aims, your methods, your data, and your conclusions.
- Rigor: Use appropriate methods, follow agreed protocols, interpret data thoughtfully, and communicate results conscientiously.
- Transparency: Declare conflicts of interest, describe how data were collected and analysed, make your findings available to the research community and participants, even when the results weren’t as expected.
- Care and respect: Treat all involved in research (human, animal, environmental) with care. Demonstrate respect to partners and communities through equitable practices.
- Accountability: Across all stakeholders and the research record.
How we support you
To help uphold these standards we offer:
- Policies and guidance: We provide clear procedures, ethical guidelines, and best-practice tools to guide your research.
- Training: Our Research Governance, Ethics and Integrity Team run workshops and training to support students and research teams to adhere to research integrity principles.
- Fair processes: We investigate any concerns about questionable research practices and research misconduct transparently and fairly.
- Ethical oversight: For research involving humans or animals, you’ll work with our Research Ethics Committee/Animal Welfare Ethical Review Board to ensure your study meets required ethical standards.
